Thank you for your interest in The Valley Health System General Surgery Residency program. Located in sunny Las Vegas, we represent a unique opportunity for training in the surgical profession. As an ACGME-approved General Surgery residency, our residents work in a system that performs over 50,000 surgical cases and 8,000 endoscopic procedures per year. We afford the benefits of training with community surgeons combined with the rigors and quality of care found in academic medicine.

Residents in our program receive operative experience from day one. There are no surgical fellows in The Valley Health System, and so residents are involved in all aspects of patient care in multiple settings, including ambulatory surgical centers, offices and numerous hospitals throughout the system.

Our program aims are as follows:

  1. Create a culture of collegial inquiry within The Valley Health System where residents can work, learn and provide a high quality of patient care in an environment conducive to education.
  2. Collaborate with the community in a partnership that is mutually beneficial to the Surgery Residency, The Valley Health System, the local physician community and our common patients.
  3. Integrate our program with community partners in a meaningful way that adds value to their practices, streamlines access to care and raises the bar on quality across all aspects of care.
  4. Promote respect for the concepts of diversity and inclusion in all forms within the culture of our program and the community.
  5. Cultivate surgeons who are clinically excellent physicians who manage themselves professionally and manage their patients with humility.

We take four categorical residents and eight preliminary residents per year. All students interested in applying to our program should submit their application through ERAS and participate in the NRMP match.
