Valley Health System Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Las Vegas
A message from Patrick Olivieri, MD
Program Director, Emergency Medicine
The Valley Health System GME Consortium
Be an incredible ER physician, and an incredible human, too
We want to create ER physicians ready for the future of healthcare. You will learn to master airways, care for critical and crashing patients, and gain competency in every procedure in Emergency Medicine. We also aim to create experts in all of what EM has to offer. That means getting comfortable with safety net care, prevention of disease, and understanding how ER docs fit into the larger healthcare system.
Las Vegas is the most unique city I’ve ever lived in. We treat patients from around the world, yet we’re part of the local community. We see the very wealthy and treat undomiciled patients every day. As a city, its opportunities for fun are as diverse as the patients we see. We have a national park famous for rock climbing 15 minutes from Summerlin Hospital. We can also go skiing 35 minutes away from Centennial Hills Hospital. You can enjoy the strip, downtown/arts district, or enjoy the family-friendly amenities our town outskirts are known for.
A lot goes into making a great ER physician. They need to be happy, confident in their clinical skills, financially literate, and self-motivated to improve. At the core of what we do, we want to graduate great ER physicians. Everything we do moves towards that goal, and we are ever evolving our curriculum to ensure we achieve it. Above all else, I’ll work tirelessly to ensure everyone we graduate is a great ER physician.
