A message from Thomas Hunt, MD
Program Director, Family Medicine
The Valley Health System GME Consortium
Welcome! We are excited to announce the ACGME approval of the Family Medicine Residency Program at The Valley Health System. The program is approved for 30 resident slots, accepting 10 residents per year, with the inaugural class beginning in July 2019.
Our residency program represents a unique opportunity for training, both personally and professionally. With more than two million people living in Southern Nevada, our residents will live and train in a community known for its diverse population base. The Valley Health System includes six hospitals serving the greater Las Vegas area. We look forward to recruiting students who want to help shape a new program in Las Vegas while expanding access to high quality, evidence-based, compassionate primary care in our community.
Highlights of the program include:
- Our diverse faculty members are dedicated to providing residents with an educational hands-on training experience, and our modern facilities will enable residents to thrive in the evolving healthcare systems of today and tomorrow.
- The Family Medicine Practice site and the strong support from community partners will enable our trainees to provide comprehensive, coordinated and personalized medicine. Our inter-professional curriculum will prepare residents to work in complex healthcare teams. During the three years of residency training, our residents will become highly skilled at all facets of Family Medicine.
- The inpatient care experiences within The Valley Health System offer our residents a collaborative and expansive opportunity to enrich their knowledge and skill set. This network of six hospitals will enable residents to train in an integrated system of care with a broad scope of specialties and experiences.
- A comprehensive simulation curriculum will allow residents to train in a consequence-free environment, enabling them to develop procedural skills for application in daily practice. Residents will also have the opportunity to participate in all forms of scholarly activity and will develop executive level leadership skills.
We are excited to usher in the next generation of family physicians. Our goal is to train competent, confident and compassionate physicians by providing an environment built around the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship and advanced facilities and tools, while providing personal support and professional development. Thank you for your interest in our program.
The Family Medicine Residency Program will offer a three-year training program. All applicants are required to apply using the ERAS application process and participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) to match with our program.
