The ER at South Summerlin, an extension of Summerlin Hospital, will begin offering low-dose CT scans on November 4, 2026, at 10290 W. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89135.

“We are pleased to offer this specialized screening to our community, especially since lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for Nevadans,” said Robert Freymuller, CEO of Summerlin Hospital. “Preventive screenings and education are vital to knowing what might be happening since the symptoms of lung cancer tend to occur when the disease is at a more advanced stage.”

The lung scan is performed using a CT machine and appointments are available seven days a week, 24 hours a day. A physician’s order is required. Most insurances are accepted and a cash-pay price is available. The screening is covered by Medicare Part B for eligible patients.

What to Expect During the Screening

The actual CT takes about 10-15 minutes, including positioning for the best images. On the day of the test, participants should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing; no dresses and no wire items above the waist (i.e. underwire bras).

Upon completion of the screening, participants will receive information and a CD with their images. The information will also be available on their Summerlin Hospital medical records portal. All information can be shared with your medical provider.

Common Signs of Lung Cancer

The most common signs of lung cancer include:

  • A cough that doesn’t go away or changes
  • Chest, shoulder or back pain

  • Coughing up blood or a rust-colored phlegm

Who Should Undergo a Low-Dose CT Cancer Screening?

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lung cancer screenings are recommended only for adults who are at a high risk of getting lung cancer based on their smoking history and age. The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends the low-dose lung cancer screening for those with:

  • A 20-pack-year or more smoking history, and
  • Those who currently smoke or quit smoking within the past 15 years, and
  • Are between ages 50 and 80 years of age

The task force defines a pack-year as smoking an average of one pack of cigarettes every day for one year.
