Hospital patients, families, guests and staff have benefited tremendously from the commitment of men and women who have been part of a dedicated volunteer team. When you volunteer, you join a group who are an integral part of our hospital family. When you become a hospital volunteer, we can match your skills, interests, experience and availability with our open volunteer positions.

Qualifications for volunteering:

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and have an interest in helping others.
  • Be able to conduct yourself with dignity, courtesy and with consideration of others.
  • Endeavor to make your work professional in quality.
  • Hold as absolutely confidential, all information that may be obtained directly or indirectly concerning patients, doctors or personnel.
  • Must be dependable and honor your commitment.
  • Be able to perform assigned tasks.

Requirements for volunteering:

  • Complete an application:
  • Attend volunteer orientation.
  • Schedule an interview with the human resources or volunteer office at your hospital of choice (see listing at right).
  • Complete two-step TB test.
  • Undergo a criminal background check.
  • Provide proof that you meet the minimum age requirement.
  • Must understand that the services provided to the hospital are donated without contemplation of compensation or future employment, and given with humanitarian, religious or charitable reasons.

How to Become a Volunteer

Choose to volunteer your time and talents. It will bring you a lot of personal satisfaction and your contribution will effect change in those lives that you touch.

TB Skin Testing You must meet with the hospital Employee Health Nurse to start your two-step TB skin test. Failure to complete the two-step skin test will delay your start date.

Orientation Arrange to receive an orientation packet from the Volunteer Manager of the hospital you want to work with. Then bring your orientation folder with the completed signature packet to orientation. All orientations will be held at Valley Health System, 8801 W. Sahara Ave. (between Fort Apache and Durango) Las Vegas, NV 89117. The classroom is called "Journey" on the 2nd floor.

Name Badge After you've attended Hospital Orientation and your TB test is complete you should visit the Human Resources department at your assigned hospital for your name badge. You will need your badge and uniform before your first day of volunteer work.

Schedule Then you'll receive your schedule with your assigned department, day(s) of the week and times that you are scheduled to volunteer.
